Riding on the 38 geary bus
The 38 Geary is the most traveled bus line—some say in the world. I don't know about that. I been on buses in India that were certainly more crowded. But in the city I think it might be the most traveled line. As such, I have observed that it has a diverse group of riders. One of the favorite games I play with myself while on the bus is to determine what language a person near me is speaking. I can guess the common languages: Cantonese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Hindi, and Russian. When I don't know I always ask. Politely of course. Most people when asked are happy to tell me what they were speaking. Last week I was sitting behind two attractive Asian women. The language that they were speaking did not fit into any of the Asian languages I recognized. It turned out they were speaking Mongolian. They told me about the Mongolian community in the Bay Area, how often they go home, what they were doing here. I had to get off the bus at my stop before I was finished talking with them.
What I want to do is to gather all my stories and post them on this blog. I hope you enjoy it. If you have a wonderful story yourself,
please email me at richard@38Geary.com.
